Frequently asked questions
Yes! The core centering app includes ratios, estimated grades, 15x zoom, and perspective correction all without an account! Pro and Max users get convenience features to bulk upload, align, and review their cards quickly; but this does not stop a free user from using the tool manually. If you don't want to see the Pro Toolbar you can hide it in the settings.
Card centering is the measurement of how offset a card is vs. an ideal version of the card. 50/50 is considered perfect, with a 45/55 ratio being the approximate limit to grade a 10.
No, unfortunately centering is just 1 of 4 criteria the grading companies look at. You also have to take into account the condition of the surface, edges, and corners.
It's optional. The tolerances on the back are lenient enough that you can usually tell by eye whether a card is out of range. If you're new to grading, it's worth measuring a few backs anyway to get a feel for the tool. It also depends on where you're sending the card, as some grading companies such as BGS are stricter than PSA about centering when awarding a subgrade of 10.
Yes. Cards in sleeves, toploaders, and card savers are all measurable as long as you can see the card edges, and the automatic edge detection model was trained on cards in these holders so it will ignore them most of the time. You can also upload pictures of slabs for verification, but the auto edge model was not designed for them and will often mistake the slab edge for the card edge. You can correct those quickly in review mode.
No, the only criteria we measure is card centering. While there is a trained ML model to detect the initial corners and edges, a user can tweak any output the model provides if it is incorrect. We do not provide any recommendations on surface, edges, and corners. These are very hard to estimate by photo alone and it is recommended that you learn to review these manually.
Cards measured while logged out are not sent to our servers and the centering calculations are done on your device. If you try out the auto edge feature the image is sent to be analyzed, but it is never saved. Logged-in and API users have their card images and measurements saved so they can be reviewed later.
Yes, feel free to use the tool however you see fit. Some API endpoints and features may be restricted to Max subscriptions (such as white labeling), but otherwise use the tool to your heart's content!
Yes! This is a web based centering tool so any mobile or desktop device using a modern browser should work! We have tested on Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. If your browser is not working for some reason email support@joshbeetcg.com with your device + browser and we will see what we can do.
